The Nativity of the Virgin Mary, the celebration of the Mother of God, is commemorated by the church every year on September 8, starting from the end of the 5th century. The Nativity of the Virgin Mary was first established as an official celebration of the Church by Pope Serge A 'and was included in the list of celebrations of the Western Church; four centuries later, the Nativity of the Virgin Mary was celebrated by all of Christendom.

The Nativity of the Virgin Mary inspired eminent hymn composers such as Romanos the Melodist, as well as hagiographers who created high-quality icons and superb tapestries. In the Byzantine hagiography in the nativity icon, the Virgin Mary is depicted placed inside a cradle as a child, with Saint Anne present in most of the icons, she is often depicted as half sitting on a bed, with a ' sad expression, having servants looking after her for being pregnant. There is also the figure of San Gioacchino. The colors of the icon are intense, the faces are bright, and a joyful tone is everywhere.

The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a liturgical feast of the Orthodox Church
and of the Catholic Church, which commemorates the birth of Mary. It is celebrated on September 8th.
According to the tradition handed down by the Protoevangelium of James, one of the apocryphal gospels,
Maria was born to Joachim and Anna. For the Orthodox Church, the birth of Mary is counted as one of the 12 major holidays.
In the Catholic Church the feast was introduced by father Sergio I (650-701). The icon presents us with a glimpse of daily life: we are inside a noble and rich house.
Anna is sitting on a bed and seems to be troubled by the wonders the Lord has worked for her. To his left are three women who from their attitude would seem to represent three servants. From a window Joachim appears on the scene, with a typical attitude of an anxious father who wants to know the new creature generated by his partner.
In the lower part of the Icon appears the Child with the nimbata head, a sign of His holiness since birth, in the arms of a servant ready to be washed.
