SAN NEKTARIO
A "contemporary" saint, Saint Nektario or Nektario of Pentapolis or Nektario of Aegina was born in 1846 in Thrace, from parents originating from a renowned Byzantine family. He was a popular priest and pedagogue, who reportedly performed miracles during his life. His writings are renowned for their style and spirituality, by his contemporaries in the academic community. He built a monastery on Aegina and contributed to the people of the island as a brother, helper and supporter.
